Worship in the Splendor of Holiness

96 (A)Oh sing to the Lord (B)a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    (C)tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For (D)great is the Lord, and (E)greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above (F)all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord (G)made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
    (H)strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, O (I)families of the peoples,
    (J)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord (K)the glory due his name;
    bring (L)an offering, and (M)come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in (N)the splendor of holiness;[a]
    (O)tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, (P)“The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will (Q)judge the peoples with equity.”

11 Let (R)the heavens be glad, and let (S)the earth rejoice;
    let (T)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let (U)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all (V)the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes (W)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

  1. Psalm 96:9 Or in holy attire

13 And the Lord said:
“Because (A)this people (B)draw near with their mouth
    and honor me with their lips,
    while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, (C)I will again
    do wonderful things with this people,
    with wonder upon wonder;
and (D)the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
    and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

15 Ah, (E)you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel,
    whose deeds are (F)in the dark,
    and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”
16 (G)You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
    “He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
    “He has no understanding”?

17 Is it not yet a very little while
    (H)until Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field,
    and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest?
18 In that day (I)the deaf shall hear
    (J)the words of a book,
and out of their gloom and darkness
    (K)the eyes of the blind shall see.
19 (L)The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord,
    and the poor among mankind shall exult in the Holy One of Israel.
20 For the ruthless shall come to nothing
    and (M)the scoffer cease,
    and all who watch to do evil shall be cut off,
21 who by a word make a man out to be an offender,
    and (N)lay a snare for him who reproves in the gate,
    and with an empty plea (O)turn aside him who is in the right.

11 (A)This Jesus[a] is the stone that was (B)rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is (C)salvation (D)in no one else, for (E)there is no other (F)name under heaven given among men[c] by which we must be saved.”

15 (A)Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 (B)making the best use of the time, because (C)the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what (D)the will of the Lord is. 18 And (E)do not get drunk with wine, for that is (F)debauchery, but (G)be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in (H)psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 (I)giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father (J)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 (K)submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

And so, (A)from the day we heard, (B)we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that (C)you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all (D)spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as (E)to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, (F)fully pleasing to him: (G)bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Put On the New Self

(A)If then you have been raised with Christ, seek (B)the things that are above, where Christ is, (C)seated at the right hand of God.

When Christ (A)who is your[a] life (B)appears, then you also will appear with him (C)in glory.

(D)Put to death therefore (E)what is earthly in you:[b] (F)sexual immorality, impurity, (G)passion, evil desire, and covetousness, (H)which is idolatry. (I)On account of these the wrath of God is coming.[c] (J)In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now (K)you must put them all away: (L)anger, wrath, malice, (M)slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. (N)Do not lie to one another, seeing that (O)you have put off (P)the old self[d] with its practices 10 and (Q)have put on (R)the new self, (S)which is being renewed in knowledge (T)after the image of (U)its creator. 11 (V)Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave,[e] free; but Christ is (W)all, and in all.

12 (A)Put on then, as (B)God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, (C)compassionate hearts, (D)kindness, (E)humility, meekness, and patience, 13 (F)bearing with one another and, (G)if one has a complaint against another, (H)forgiving each other; (I)as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on (J)love, which (K)binds everything together in (L)perfect harmony. 15 And let (M)the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called (N)in one body.
